Conservation of Bats – Roofing

Bats are a protected species in the united kingdom and play an important role in the ecosystem.

Previously when bats have been found in a loft space Bitumen 1F Felt has been used to line the roof as it allowed breathability through the material to ensure that the bats we able to inhabit these spaces safely. The downside of Bitumen 1F Felt was the cost of the thermal performance of the roof because 1F Felt requires extra rafter space if insulation is being used.

Properties with uninsulated 1F Felt roofs can release up to 10 tonnes of co2 per year. At Chris Mcleod and Son Roofing we use specialist breathable roofing membranes that can increase thermal performance by up to 87% whilst also ensuring the protection and safety of bats.
